Your simple business plan and new agent checklist
Getting started as an independent life insurance agent means you set your own plan. Review it weekly and adjust based on what your numbers show.

- Tracking: leads worked, appointments set, appointments run, applications submitted
Week 1: Set up and request contracts
- Confirm your license is active and note your NPN
- Arrange E&O coverage and AML training if required
- Choose carriers and submit contracting paperwork
- Set up a simple tracking sheet or CRM
Week 2: Learn products and process
- Work through training on leads, presentations and field underwriting

Week 4: Start field activity
- Start field appointments once you have confirmed your license, carrier authorization, product training and any required appointment
- Review each appointment: what went well, what to change
- Follow up on any pending applications
- Track your activity numbers weekly
Important caveats
Carrier approvals aren't guaranteed and can take longer than a month. Before soliciting or submitting business, confirm that your license, carrier authorization, product training and any required appointment meet the rules for that state and carrier. Appointment timing and processes vary. Production depends on activity, market and skill. Agent First Contracts currently recruits independent agents in Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. Requirements, carrier availability and approvals vary by state and carrier.
