How to Get Released From Your IMO

An IMO release is paperwork that tells a carrier your contract now sits under a different upline. It is not your license and it is not your clients. Agent First Contracts never withholds a release.

What a release actually is

A release tells the carrier that your current upline is stepping aside so your contract can be rewritten under a new hierarchy. Carriers require it so two uplines never claim the same production. It does not touch your state insurance license.

What to check before you ask

  • Vesting terms
  • Chargeback and advance balances
  • Assignment of commissions
  • Non-solicitation clauses
  • Notice requirements
  • Termination language

Step-by-step process

  1. Read your current agreement.
  2. List every carrier and writing number.
  3. Clear or address any balance.
  4. Submit the request in writing.
  5. Work it carrier by carrier.
  6. Use carrier transfer rules if the IMO stalls.
  7. Keep dated records throughout.

Our release policy

Agent First Contracts does not use holds, threats, or delay tactics. Ask every IMO about their release policy before you sign.

Why we're fine handing you the exit door

We are above all Agent First. That is the filter we run every decision through. If it's better for the agent, we do it. Publishing carrier release forms is better for agents, so they're published.

This isn't something we really have to deal with. We've built an environment where agents get the highest contracts directly from the carrier, incredible training, the best leads, cutting-edge technology, in-home training, and group chats. We're independent agents but we're a team. Agents are free to leave any time — but most remember the search before they found their home here, and they don't want to go back to it.
